Details: This spring we’ll tackle the heist novel Lady Joker, Vol. 1, by Kaoru Takamura. Inspired by an unsolved true-crime kidnapping and extortion case, this magnum opus by one of Japan’s literary masters was originally published in 1997, but only recently translated to English. In this thrilling page-turner, five disaffected outsiders conspire to carry out a heist to take revenge against a society that values corporations over human life. This book is a bit longer than our usual selections (~600 pages) so don’t procrastinate too long!
