Christina Higgins

New Jersey Subchapter Representative

Nagasaki, 2021-24

A New York native, Christina’s interest in Japan began when she picked Japanese as her foreign language in middle school. That interest deepened after participating in a two-week cultural exchange trip to Japan while in high school. She went on to study public health at the University of Maryland and work at a non-profit organization for a few years before joining the JET Program.

Christina spent three wonderful years as an ALT at one elementary school and one middle school in Shimabara, Nagasaki. She was known by the locals for being very active, trying her hand at all kinds of sporting activities from running two marathons, playing soccer with students, co-planning an area wide volleyball tournament, and earning MVP honors at a tag rugby tournament. In her down time, Christina enjoys cozying up with tea and a nice book, rooting for the New York Mets, and walking her one-eyed mutt, Sparky.

Christina is excited to maintain a lifelong connection to Japan through JETAANY. If you ever want to hear about Kyushu or Nagasaki, she’s your girl!
