Yuki Kaneshige

Born and raised in New York City, Yuki has cultivated an appreciation for Japanese culture and her heritage through the years. A great influence has been the many JET alumni she has met who have such a deep understanding and love of Japan.

These interactions were made possible through her work at the Consulate General of Japan in New York as a Public Information Specialist. There, she started organizing volunteer events on the anniversaries of March 11 and September 11 to strengthen the feeling of community for Japanese, Japanese Americans, and those with strong ties to Japan. In collaboration with The Japanese American Association of New York, where she serves as a Vice President, and with the energetic participation of JET alumni, volunteers try to help those in need while creating cross-cultural connections with other communities.

Prior to this, Yuki was a longtime TV news producer for Tokyo Broadcasting System, focused on reports about social issues such as domestic violence and gender inequality. She graduated from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. A retired marathoner, Central Park is her happy place, and she enjoys testing the boundaries of acceptable humor on the Consulate’s social media platforms, bouts with Duolingo to learn kanji, and consuming halo-halos all-year round.
